Darling Downs Region Performing Arts

The Darling Downs Scout Region Performing Arts Team conduct various activities throughout the year, with a focus of on stage training and performances. The major activity throughout the year is the Darling Downs Revue which is a two theatrical performance.

We also conduct yearly disco/karaoke nights for the different Scout sections, a Carols by the Campfire and also do a couple of public performances on Australia Day and Queensland Day.

Have a look below for more information on the various activities.

Our Revue is based on traditional Gang Show concepts and started as a result of a visit to Toowoomba by the Brisbane Gang Show. Our first show was held at Harristown State High School Hall in 1991 with a cast of 35. It continued each year till 2001 when the Toowoomba City Hall (our performance venue) closed. We restarted in 2005 performing at Highfields Cultral Centre for the next nine years. In 2014 we changed venues and came back into Toowoomba performing at the new Heritage Bank Auditorium at the Empire Theatre. This year we will be performing at the USQ Arts Theatre.

“Darling Downs Revue is a feature packed two hour theatrical variety performance full of songs, dance and drama suitable for the whole family!”

Studio 44

An Original Script by Darling Downs Revue

We are inviting all Scouting and Guiding members in the Darling Downs Region from the ages of 6 years and up to apply for a role in this years Theatrical Production – ‘Studio 44’.

Studio 44 is a show based around a day in a television studio, from the Morning Talk Show, to mid-day soap operas and cooking shows. Don’t forget the afternoon game shows and nightly news, through to the talent shows and late night horror show. We have a great mix of songs, wonderful dances, and skits to make you laugh out loud.
Another element added to the mix this year, is we have included a dance item to get you in the groove of the Latin Beat.
As this is a Television Studio where would one be without the roles of a station manager, cameramen and stylists. Not only will we be casting roles for the show items but for all the other roles around the station as well, joining this year’s show there’s no standing around it is all hands on. For something a little different this year we are planning one of our items to be fully filmed prior to the show and shown as short segments throughout the show.

Applications for cast are closed for this season, and rehearsals are under-way. If you would like to join the cast for the 2019 season, applications will be open in March.
